My Story

Hello my name is Sofia and thank you for your time. I appreciate you opening your heart to me and to the mission and purpose of Damascus. I was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico but I grew up in El Paso, Texas. I currently go to the University of Texas at El Paso and I am pursuing a degree in Education with an EC-6 bilingual certification. Growing up I went to mass and I got my First Communion and Confirmation but I didn’t open my heart up to God until 2 years ago. I had lived a life full of fear and anxiety. I found a beautiful community at the Newman Center at my university and that was when I fully surrendered to the Lord. The peace that the Lord gives is incomparable to anything you can find in the world. This is the peace that I want people to find. I know so many people who cannot break free from their fears, their stress, or their sadness. I hope that I can lead them to the joy of the Lord. I hope they realize that the world is full of empty promises that will only lead to temporary happiness. God is the only source of eternal joy and He wants to share it with us no matter who we are. I want to serve to support this mission and dedicate time to help others experience the peace, love, and joy of the Lord. Will you join me on this incredible journey to Heaven? I’d be honored to share this adventure with you. May the God of peace be with you, Sofia
